Photography
My work is mainly focused on the street. I like to use my pictures to show all sides of society. My images are about my passion: the people, places, and moments that touch my soul. I like street photos and landscapes, but basically, I want to shoot anything that catches my eye. I am a curious person. I have always been interested in people, who they are, what they do, how they look, and where they are going. Taking their pictures sometimes helps me understand them more. I feel like a social worker with a camera, and my camera is my voice.
My art is the journey of discovery and self-expression. I choose to explore the people, things, and the world around me through camera lenses. I am fascinated by the subjective nature of events, how two people can have the same experience, have fundamentally different interpretations, and put different values on them. My experience is not only a source of pain and happiness but also a source of exploration and inspiration. They are what I use to create my art.
I don't think beauty depends on the "quality" of the picture. Whether it's bad, good or great depends on one's view; how to create a great image is not only an endless debate but also very personal. Compared with the quality of the image, the more important thing is the attraction of the image to people, and how the image stimulates the audience's emotions. The more successful an image is, the more it resonates with our collective memory and acts as an emotional Rorschach test, triggering many similar feelings in different people.
My passion for photography drives me to hike to the top of Mount Tai, roam the vast sand dunes of the Sahara, float on the Ganges River in India, walk the old city of Havana, hike on the glaciers of Iceland, pull sledges through the snowfields of Banff, taste delicious food on the beaches of Cancun, sail in the water city of Venice, the Victoria Falls River riding on a white raft. These experiences and desire to explore the world drove me to photography.
While traveling, I love to look at different cultures and see the differences. I then use the camera to capture the moments and present them to other people. I wander on ordinary and unusual surfaces, waiting for people to give up their secret moments so that I have the chance of shooting them and sharing their stories. My photos allow me to be a part of the experiences of others. I am the lion crossing Kenya, the woman sewing clothes in Cuba, the newborn baby, the old man playing the piano on the streets of Seattle. I want to live all the lives and moments.
My work, whether streets, landscapes, animals or still life, are the most successful when celebrating the richness of life. When people see my work, I hope they can feel the moment and share in the feelings I have tried to capture.
I am an explorer, a traveler, a collector of moments.
This is who I am.
